ZZR1200 header on an 11

Postby Davecrfisher » Wed Feb 14, 2018 8:54 am

Hi

I managed to pick up a set of 1200 headers from ebay for £55. They were in a pretty bad state. Took them to be polished and now they're like new. Next step is the rest of the system. I am looking at a set from SP Engineering. Am I correct in thinking I can buy a system for the 1200 and it will fit straight onto my 1100D? Are there any tips or advice for fitting them?

Thanks

Dave

Yes, a 1200 exhaust system is a direct fit on any ZZ-R1100/ZX-11.

That's a bargain price for a nice set of SS headers. I picked up a set
of 1200 headers on eBay, but I paid a good bit more for them.

AFAIK, the stock ZZR1200 cans will fit the 1100. This probably means that just
about any after-marker cans will also bolt straight on.

Because I'm a mean bastard, I cut the original ZZR1100 silencers off
just downstream of the old rusty headers/collector. I cut a few slots in the
open end and refitted the original 1100 cans with the 1200 headers. I used
a couple of rather ugly car exhaust clamps at the join. It took a fair bit of
compression to make a good joint. I didn't think the usual 'fancy'
stainless clamps would be strong enough for the job.

You shouldn't have any problems. The 1200 headers are a good fit. They
don't foul the plastic fairing and they don't interfere with access to the
oil filter.

You have a few options for silencers:

Original ZZR1100 (with some hacking)
Original ZZR1200 (usually quite cheap to buy)
After market cans. Delkovic, Black Widow, Pipewerx etc....

Many thanks. I'm looking at a set of SP Engineering cans. Great quality, decent choice and not a bad price.
