update on headbearings

Postby zzr11gaz » Fri Apr 13, 2012 8:09 pm

after getting the bars shake when slowing down from higher speeds it shakes at 45ish i changed the steering head bearings . thanks for advice given , but it does exactley the same thing. still no harm in a fresh set at 20000m. the front tyre was rebalanced still no diffrent. the tyre has 2000m left in it and the discs look ok . i freed off the stainless rings on the discs. still no diffrent. i am wondering if it could be the front wheel bearing even tho it was mot and all checked last month . i will get to the bottom of this . any body any more ideas . thanks garry

Are the tyres in good condition Garry? The rear tyre will go "square" and the front will wear more on the outside of the centre line... Once the front tyre has gone like a threepenny bit, no matter how much tread is left, it's finished. Either tyre, front or rear, will cause what you're feeling.

edit..... have you got any luggage fitted... top box/paniers???

back tyre has loads of life in it . i will change the front to be sure , have a givi top box on the rear but it does it when not on , free wheelin from 70 down as soon as it hits 45 it starts shakin then below 40 stops . as i am not touchin the brakes i can not see it being them . will swop tyre and front wheel bearing . we shall see .............................

turns out it was the front tyre . put a new avon storm on and the wobble has gone . even tho i had the wheel balanced and the tyre still had life left in it ........

When I got my 12 something felt odd at the front. It had tread but must of squared off a little - back was ok ish.

So, a bit rash for me, I went straight out and put two new Bridgestone BT023's on and I haven't looked back . . .
