Oil leak - only high speed / RPM

Postby ninjalvr » Tue Apr 17, 2012 11:25 pm

I have a ZZR1200 which ive only had since december of last year so only recently am i starting to give it some real throttle, thing is when i do give ita good handfull, 8-9k rpm then stop theres a thin puff of smoke that drifts up through the front of the fairing betwen the forks, pull away normally 3,4,5000 rpm nothing, i mean i must have a leak somewhere, musnt i? but i cant find any wet patches of fresh oil on the engine anywhere. Am i forcing a gasket open somewhere when i hit high RPM and squirting oil onto the downpipes??? this is the 4th big Kawasaki ive had all have enjoyed a drop of oil but this is the first one that has actually smoked anyone got any ideas??

Probably worth pulling off the fairings, and having a closer look. Lots of stuff in front of the engine that may have a small leak, oil cooler and hoses, radiator and hoses, and the engine itself.

Are you losing oil or having to top up regularly ?

When you get the smoke anchors on and have a look asap - you might just catch a glimpse of where it's coming from (as barry1200 says) with a panel or two off would be preferable :?

why not just run it for about 20 mins or so at home and then rev it up a bit when its hot? it could be coolant leaking?
