I have a working email - but maybe it is not checked often?? - for Pengaru.
I'm also out in the Bay Area where he is as well. Been trying to meet up with him this week, no joy so far.
I've emailed about 4x with no response although i had gotten one earlier this year.
Pengaru hosted the site for years on his server and has all the data.

Hekontonheires seems on it, and with a solid plan if we can get data, and / or worst case I can probably host a phpBB site on my server company that I use. I looked into it a little, apparently phpBB forums are somewhat easy to use, I know I CAN launch one I think at no additional cost to what I already pay for, but apparently phpBB sites are a bit prone to hacking and asshat meddling... ANY updates will be posted immediately here!

No matter what method we end up going with I think several people should have access to an up-to-date copy via dropbox or something. To prevent an issue like this from happening again (complete loss of interest) or an even worse situation where the site could not be recovered at all.

Agreed!!
It's getting a little irritating.
I think my next email I will offer to drive anywhere in the Bay Area with a large enough hard drive and have it all copied over.
Maybe that can be the first step.
Then figure out how to serve it all back up, worst case as a searchable archive only with maybe a new active forum if the formats can't match up or something like that.
I spent a lot of time posting there as did others. It's really a 'net tragedy right now.

I only wonder if the back ups will still have images or not. I'm not aware of if you could post images directly there or not.

Oh yes you could most definitely embed pics there directly. I did all the time.
And pengaru does have all those images and such backed up - I've already verified that.

IIRC he said the whole site was around 10GB or less I think to store it all

Some more better news. I have an uber geeky coder friend who can help me MSQL out all the old data and port it into a new phpBB forum if it comes to that. Either way, it will come back. I just need to get my hands on that data!

Nice! If you need help with SQL db stuff, I can do queries and procedures. I'm no developer, but I can get through the systems.
