I was wondering if anybody else has experienced or heard of the camchain tensioner snapping completely.
Mine went last year after i had been out on the bike all day (there were no warning sounds or anything unusual) but after I parked up for 30 minutes then tried to restart the bike it sounded like the starter had seized on.
It was taken into the garage where the broken tensioner was discovered.
The bike is a 2008 gen 1 with approximately 15000 miles and a full service history

No experience of this, nor have I heard of this happening. Always a first time I guess.Did it do any other damage when it broke?

I think i've just been really unlucky.
one of the valves got slightly knocked but i managed to kill the engine straightaway. I got off relatively lightly as the guides kept the chain from coming off its sprockets completely so it was just clattering around

Not heard of the tensioner fully giving up the ghost, but I have heard of issues with them my mates cousin has a 58 plate one and the tensioner and chain is rattling, he needs it doing but ain't got the cash to spend on it, think he was going to get rid of it, he was rolling it backwards and forwards in gear to get a little more tension on the chain to reduce the rattle.

It's normal the cct rattels a bit som few sec.after startupp. CCT are oilpreshure opprated,so unntil full oilpreshure there are som small rattel. No wories. If u wish to get rid off this "problem" install an manual APE cct.
