D4 Fairing mount in frame

Postby Daveyrach » Wed Jun 13, 2018 6:48 am

Morning all

So as most are aware on the D models the top edge of the side fairings are mounted to the frame via a rubber damper piece, the issue I have is that a previous owners has rounded off the threads in the frame so any bolt I put in a) I can't tighten and b) falls out through vibration.

Where do I stand with drilling the thread out and putting a rubber well nut in there like those used on screens etc? Its the only way round I can really think of unless anyone else has some ideas, my theory is there is already an M6 hole in the frame and I'd only be enlarging it by 6mm.

Cheers guys

That is an option but the metal is not that thick, would the rubber well nuts work? It only needs to hold the fairing in place

These Time-sert inserts are far superior to helicoils, but for that application I'd recommend a Riv-nut.

Where have Riv-Nuts been all my life, so much easier than trying to drill and tap and all that stuff!
